Citizens avoids major hit from Michael

TALLAHASSEE — While the toll from Hurricane Michael continues to mount in Northwest Florida, the state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. has avoided a major financial hit.Citizens had 3,189 claims as of Wednesday from the monster storm that made landfall Oct. 10 and estimates that it will end up with $142 million in paid losses and expenses, spokesman Michael Peltier said in an email.
